CD Review 1

Boys Like Girls: Love Drunk

This is their second album, which has so far been impressive to me. I’m not sure of the sales amounts because that information isn’t available yet.
I think this album is pretty good, but not as good as the first CD. In their first CD they established their own sound, which was a mix of catchy guitar riffs and nicely places falsettos. I thought anyways.

This time, they came back with some of the same stuff, but had A LOT of experimentation on this one. The vocals changed throughout, and the music style changes a lot. While taking a quick through of the CD once again, I found that 4 songs out of the 11 do NOT sound like the old BLG, because of the musical discrepancies on the tracks. They include ‘She’s got a boyfriend now’, ‘Shot Heard round’ the world’, ‘Real Thing’, and ‘Contagious’.

The other tracks are great, they have the same sound us Boys Like Girls fans are looking for, Martin’s high hitting falsettos, and best of all, the same catchy pop-rock catchiness. They have a few slower paced songs on this CD as well, and also one of my favourites, ‘Two is better than one’. ‘Two is better than one’ features Taylor Swift on the track, so it sounds A MILLION times better, not to be biased or anything. But her voice harmonizing against Martin’s is just awesome, orgasmic almost.

Attacking their single Love Drunk, I don’t think it’s all that great, because it doesn’t feel the same as a normal Boys Like Girls song. The only thing I absolutely love about the song is the second part of the chorus, where the lyrics goes as so: “‘Cause just one sip / Would make me say”. The vocals hit the perfect notes here, in a falsetto as well (Yeah, I’m a sucker for awesome falsetto’s). But that’s the only extraordinary part of the song. If I were to choose a single off their album, it’d be ‘Chemicals Collide’, since it sums up the album nicely. It has the same sound as they usually do (good to impress BLG fans) and still attract the same type of fans.

The 4 songs I mentioned had another sound, and I believe it’s because the band wanted experiment a little. ‘Real Thing’ has an 80’s feel to it, which means it kind of sounds like 80’s rock. But the band can’t really do it well in my opinion, so they should stray away from it. ‘She’s got a boyfriend now’ kind of sounds like a Cartel song that I’ve heard before. I can’t remember which one, but it’s from their first album (only album?). It sounded nice, so I think if they keep trying this style out, they should. ‘Shot heard round’ the world’ has a PURE pop feel. I don’t like how they’re almost “selling out” on this song. I love the original Boys Like Girls sound, so I think they shouldn’t get too much into the pop realm. And ‘Contagious’ is a good song as well. It has a more of the We the Kings feel, rather then a BLG feel. But it’s all good.

In all, I’d say you should definitely give this album a checkout, whether on Youtube or anything else. And you should most definitely buy it if you like the original Boys Like Girls.

I'm now adding a new thing to the end of my blogs now. It's going to show a new band each post. These bands aren't that big yet, but in time I HOPE they'll be. It'll be BOTP (Band of the post).
The first band of the post will be The Bigger Lights. Check them out at www.myspace.com/thebiggerlights

Anyways, that’s my two sense on things.
