Acting

As of lately, most of my late nights are composed of researching careers that I may find suitable for me in the future. One of the career paths that I dwelled into was ACTING, movie and TV acting specifically. While doing research I found some strange facts that are common to most actors:

A surprisingly high number of actors are Jewish. Jack Black is an example of one. His parents were Jewish (only after his father converted, that is). Paula Abdul (the female judge in American Idol) is also a Jewish along with young rising stars Shia LaBeouf and Daniel Radcliffe. There’s a whole list of them if you would bother Wikipedia-ing them.

Majority of them come from well off families. Well, I don’t think this fact is most surprising, as most of the readers of this come from well families too. But it bugs me to see that there are no famous stars that came from a family that wasn’t somewhat wealthy or successful. There go most of my dreams...*pouts*.

A lot of the famous A-List actors are either born in New York, or Los Angeles. That’s the way it works. The ones who were generally born in New York can also sing, while most of the LA ones can’t. And the ones who WERE born in New York, they went on to college, but then dropped out and moved to LA because Los Angeles is definitely where the industry picks its stars. Another little tid-bit, the more famous actors who weren’t born in either city moved to either city.

And the last strange information I found was that most actors, all the ones I researched anyways, seemed to lead normal lives up until 21-22 years of age, in which they dropped out of their post-secondary education lives and left to New-York or Los Angeles. This is weird to me, because, education programs in North America (probably everywhere else too) run anywhere from 3-4 years for a Bachelors degree, and yet, most actors get through the nitty gritty of school only to drop up when they’re a week away from graduating. That’s simply a waste of 3 or 4 years of your life (assuming they graduate at 18). Maybe that’s how you’re supposed to do it; you’re not supposed to have a degree before becoming famous. I don’t know...

I guess the main reason I fell for this sort of career path is mainly due to fame. I’ve always been attracted to it. Musicians don’t get nearly the amount of recognition as actors, nor’ do lawyers, doctors, or anything else for that matter (unless you’ve invented something that everybody knows, eg. Windows OS). The money factor is pretty good too I guess, making 10-20million a movie if you actually make it to the top. Most actors make 50 000 a year NET. So unless you’re Jewish, from a wealthy family, and plan on dropping out of college at 21-22, you’re MOST LIKELY not going to be an A-List actor.

I’d give the Acting category 6/10 as a career. It’s not the greatest pay, and you really have to be talented to start making money.

I’ll probably write another post talking about the music industry sometime this week. But for any readers other than Kevin, I’ll definitely write another one before tomorrow.
But in the meantime, that’s my two sense on things.

EDIT: Oh, please click the ad's. As I mentioned above, my family isn't exactly 'wealthy', so I would really appreciate helping me get some money. By clicking, you instantly give me 59 cents. Thanks in advanced.
